Jason Reitman (Juno, Young Adult) returns with an inspection of motherhood led by Charlize Theron.
Tully gets its first trailer as Jason Reitman collaborates again with Charlize Theron, who plays a middle-aged mother exhausted by spilled milk, diapers, and school trips. She previously worked with Reitman in Young Adult, one of the most sardonic stories of people in their early 30s.
The trailer is packed with Reitman's recognizable traits: snappy humor and charming personalities surrounding adult issues. He tackles the social challenges to our human conditions without much pessimism and presents human souls under goodwill and wonderful progressiveness.
This time, Theron underwent body transformation to play Marlo, a mother of three, burdened by child rearing until her brother (Mark Duplass) introduces night nanny Tully (the charming Mackenzie Davis of Black Mirror's "San Junipero") to her. Optimistic inexperience meets wise anguish as Marlo gains a new perspective on life through Tully's advice.
The cast also includes Ron Livingston, Elaine Tan, Maddie Dixon Porter, Colleen Wheeler, and Emily Haine. With Juno's Diablo Cody returning to pen the script for Reitman, Tully promises a down-to-earth look into motherhood with both sides that blissfully conflict and complement each other.
Tully is due in theaters on April 20.
