Ang Lee's Will Smith-led project is now in filming with its cast confirmed.
After technical wonders like Life of Pi and Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, director Ang Lee is now venturing into another ambitious project. Title Gemini Man, the sci-fi thriller follows a washed-up hitman (Will Smith) as he faces a familiar yet strange threat: a young clone of himself.
The project was green-lit after decades of development, first drafts bouncing between David Benioff (Game of Thrones) and Andrew Niccol (The Truman Show) before landing with a script by Stephen J. Rivele and Christopher Wilkinson.
Paramount Pictures and Skydance announced official production earlier today. The confirmed cast next to Smith includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen, and Benedict Wong.
The official synopsis reads:
Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move.
This premise promises more visual innovation from Lee, who juggled with 3D filmmaking and ultra high frame rate spectacle. Smith is expected to undergo a digital de-aging process, which features frequently in movies nowadays. What makes Gemini Man special is that the young Henry Bogan may appear a lot, creating a painstaking (and costly) task for Lee's crew and his young stand-in actor for Smith.
