The Spider-Man 3 star is in a superhero movie filmed last year, but he isn't telling you what it is.
Aside from the villain Sandman in Sam Raimi's unloved Spider-Man 3, Thomas Haden Church is memorable in many roles--the most acclaimed is Jack in Alexander Payne's Sideways. Now Church is returning to the superhero genre with a secret role he worked on last year.
Answering JoBlo when asked about the successful genre, he spoke:
"I'm not supposed to talk about it, but I actually have returned, but not in the Marvel world, it's another world, but it is in that genre of superheroes and supervillains. I'm not supposed to talk about it, it's a movie I shot last year. They're trying to keep it-and good luck to 'em-with, y'know, today man, I'm surprised it hasn't already kinda been revealed."
Suppose "not in the Marvel world" means he wasn't in any Sony, Fox, or Marvel Studios projects, it should be narrowed down to two movies: DCEU's Aquaman and Mike Mignola and David Harbour's Hellboy reboot.
While the DCEU next solo installment, filmed from May to October 2017, is not that secretive, the production of Hellboy doesn't receive as much publication. It's more plausible to speculate Church's superhero role is with Hellboy, but the surprise is staying hidden until official announcement.
