Solo: A Star Wars Story releases its first piece of marketing, the official synopsis.
Disney has released the official synopsis for Solo: A Star Wars Story, in which Han meets his plucky sidekick Chewie for the first time.
Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy. Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.
In the same focused vein as the 2016 spin-off Rogue One, Solo will flesh out the background of the galaxy's most daring smuggler, Han Solo (Alden Ehrenreich), by depicting his early days in the business. His friendships with Chewie and Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover) are expected to encapsulate the story.
Controversies surrounded the movie's development with the departure of the director duo, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and reports of heavy reshoot under the new helmer, Ron Howard (Chicago). Despite the hardship, Howard seems invested and enthusiastic with this project.
Under Disney, the annual Star Wars releases have been a series of successes, but this anthology movie may meet formidable competition in the form of Deadpool 2, which comes one week ahead of Solo. Except for the synopsis, there has been no trailer or any other kind of marketing product when it's only more months to May 25th. This shortcoming and the backstage negativity might explain the lack of hype around the movie, and Solo is having a hefty task of subverting this perception.
Solo: A Star Wars Story is due in theaters May 25, 2018.
